What is LiveStudios’ Digital Guestbook?
Short answer: LiveStudios’ Digital Guestbook is a roving Wacom-based add-on that pairs each guest’s event photo with their handwritten message. A dedicated assistant brings the pressure-sensitive stylus and pen display to guests at their tables. Each completed entry can be projected live, printed as a photocard and included in a complete digital collection for the host.

The Origin Story
In 2007, the night before his own wedding, our founder had an idea: what if guests could write personal messages beside their event photo?
He didn’t sleep. He wrote a script, set up a pen tablet, and tested the system live — at his own wedding the very next day. While other grooms were relaxing, he was setting up and operating the first version of the Digital Guestbook.
However, that first prototype revealed a critical UX problem: guests couldn’t relate the tablet position to the screen. They’d look at the screen while writing on their lap — a completely disconnected experience. The solution was clear — guests needed to draw directly where they see, on a pen input display.
The Hardware Journey
What followed was nearly two decades of real-world testing at events:
- Phase 1 — Pen displays (Fujitsu & others): No palm rejection. Guests would touch the screen while writing, leaving horrible streaks across their messages.
- Phase 2 — Wacom Mobile Studio Pro: Finally, a perfect writing experience with professional palm rejection. But at over 2kg, it required a tripod stand — limiting portability.
- Phase 3 — Wacom MovinkPad (current): Elegant, lightweight, portable. The same professional Wacom pen experience, now light enough for an assistant to carry to every table.
Each iteration addressed a problem observed at real events. The current Digital Guestbook workflow has been developed and refined through use at weddings, galas and celebrations since 2007.
